Beautiful and seductive costume design by Japanese pattern designer Yoshio Nariwa

The traditional technique of Kyoto's Kata-Yuzen dyeing, which beautifully envelops the albedo

Based on a design created from scratch, the fabric for the furisode was dyed by Nishimura Shoji Shoten, a long-established Kyoto textile merchant, at a Yuzen factory in Kyoto. In general Yuzen, a stencil with a carved pattern is placed on top of white fabric, and only the pattern part is dyed with each color. One stencil is used for each color, and this is repeated multiple times to make one pattern stand out. The fabric is then steamed to fix the color, washed, and finished by smoothing out the wrinkles. In this case, 15 stencils were used for both the black and white furisode, and each was dyed 15 times. The fabric, which was dyed with great care and time, has a unique deep color.
